The New Journey Fellowship Website

Hey Fellow Journeyers,

As you can see, we are working on a new version of journeyfellowship.info. Look around, and then leave a comment here. Tell us what you like, what you dislike, any bugs you find, etc. We'll incorporate your feedback into the final version of the site.

Hope you like it!

We've been reading the new website and the content is great. For us more senior types, could the page and font size be a bit larger for easier reading

Nice new look! I have a background in multi-media and Technical writing QA so I am really looking at this from that prospective so I hope you understand.
Font definately need to be bigger. The rollovers should fall under each category and not centered. I found that when using the transparent rollover background does not work well because different browsers and the different background pictures makes it difficult to read sometimes.
Also under news it looks like everything got duplicated.
Under current series need to take out "to" between "really"
and "love".
Under "who is Oak Hills Church" not sure that the "doing life" statement fits in correctly.
Under "Our Vision" second para "Instead" should be "Instead of".
Under "Our story" The heading do not match up with the rollovers.
Sometime when you go back to the "news" tab it will not display Community Groups or Current Series.
Also when you click on Learn more on Community groups it takes you to the Interact Tab and when you click on Learn More on Current Series it take you to the Media tab.
That's what I was able to find.

Steve: I like the new look, brighter, and my photo of the Winder 'men'from the air show at Randolph, when we were 'looking up' from the tarmac!
Other than larger font size for menus/links, it looks fine, though i'm sure you'll tweak with improvements over time!

I couldn't find a way to contact anyone other tham posting here. It would be nice to have a "Contact Us" link. Or did I miss it? Could be my eyesight. Who knows?
I look forward to seeing everyone in the new digs on August 3. It's been too long.

This sight is worthless. Reasons for a church having a website are as follows:
-provide info
-connect with and reach people on their comfort level
-cultural relevance
-share Christ!

I think the size of the type has been addressed so, I'll skip that. The fact is, .info provides very little info. We've got half a page of info spread across 15 different pages. I say, if you're gonna give folks carpal tunnel, make it woth their while and give them more than just a few words and a hip, out-of-focus picture. Most of the info on the site could be put on fewer pages and split into different sections on the page, which will allow more info on other pages. For example, when I click on "Learn more" under "community groups", it takes me to a page with a large coffee cup and 2 sentences. Bust. It's laughable. What about testimonials from group leaders? Or, actual info (.info) about the Biblical history and model of community groups? That would be a perfect place for listing the current groups and their contact info.
When I click on Bibleland (would a seeker know that this is a children's ministry?), I am given a respectable, but brief overview of what I can expect from the children's ministry, but I get no picture of a human. Not a single face of a child or adult. Nope, just the same coffee cup from the previous link.
Map room? If I don't know that this is a hipped-up name for the information center, I'm gonna think it's a room full of historic maps. Why would I need a room full of maps, when I can Google it? As a seeker, I'd skip it, and, who could blame me? When I do click on it, I get one sentence. One. And, a pic of the same blame coffee cup. Give me somebody, a face, please!
What We Believe. Everything here is by the book. Which is a big problem. One single paragraph on Jesus, which a paraphrasing of text. No mention of a personal relationship. None. "Unfortunately, there is nothing to see here, better be moving on." Really, guys? Years of church work, Sem. the personal testimonies, the work he does in us daily and that's what we give 'em? Really?
When I click on "high school" I get a picture of a young girl with a toddler. What message does that send? Right about now I want to see the coffee cup again.
Where are the study guides for Comm. groups?
I realize it is a SMART desire of JF to keep things simple, but this site is elemental, at best. Sorry, but, .info, might as well be .wasteoftime.
The Yahoo homepage is packed with links and info. Too much, actually. But, it was recently named the best online news source. That ain't no coincidence.
What if we:
-Have the podcast link on every page in the same place on the page.
-Easily accessible comm. group study guides.
-Teaser ads about upcoming series (The Story). It sounds gimmicky, I know. But, no more gimmicky than the 7ft. tall movie theater signage in the hallways. And, it is relevant to members, visitors and seekers alike. Therefore, important.
-List of missionaries we support. Where they are, etc. This way when they show up to muster support, they aren't a strange face asking for money; they're a ministry.
-Short essays and testimonies by the staff and elders. Especially, the elders. I've been planning worship for Sun. nights, however miserably, for 6 months, but, I only know and recognize 3 elders. I'm to blame, but what if a visitor could walk up to an elder and say, "I'm here 'cuz we need a church, I read your test. online and it touched me. Here I am." That would be amazing, yet, totally within our reach. Plus, I know God is working in those guys, or they wouldn't be our elders. That's something they should be able to share. That's something they NEED to share.
-Photos of actual people on the site.
-Name 'Journey Fellowship" more prominent, not just JF logo. We ain't AT&T, folks.
-No more pics of coffee cups. "I've had my fill." Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Thank you for listening/reading.

I apologize that my previous post comes across so harshly. I gots the passion, though. I love you guys and this church. Otherwise, I wouldn't waste your time. I hope you are able to sift through my harshness and find something helpful. Blessings.

Tommy definitely has a point. It took me a few minutes to find the blog about the website. Some things not noted yet that I think would be better:
-- Under "MEDIA" it has the "Directions" series, but there's no links there to hear Randy's LOVE series. These podcasts are only found if you click on the Interact link, then on the blog link. Let's have all those podcasts together. Under "MEDIA" there's a link that says "MORE NEWS" but it should say MORE MEDIA and link you to those other podcasts, perhaps.
-- "Mentoring Moms" - if you're going to resume in the fall, perhaps put a time/location for the next event. Or perhaps put a contact name/phone number so someone could find out more. They may not come back to the website again in the fall.
-- "MINISTRIES" should have a contact person for each ministry. If a parent were looking to get their high-schooler involved with a church group, I don't think they'd feel like the high school group really exists when there's only two sentences. The middle school one is better because there's actual info that someone could use and show up without calling to get info. (Not everyone likes to have to call to get info - let's have the info there already!)
-- I agree that a MISSIONS link with testimonials and locations (use GoogleMaps?) would be nice on the website.
-- What about a "photos" page where there are photos from all events (sundays, middle school bash, movie drive-in theater, etc). This would show, without words, part of what the Journey Family is all about.
-- on the way top of the blogspot page, how come when you click on "Next blog" it takes you to some other country's blog? Is there a way to get rid of that? I thought I'd get the next Journey blog - what a surprise!

the community groups are closed to outsiders now. i can find prescription drugs on the internet easier than a group.
